Side Events Overview

As part of the 29th ASEAN Insurance Regulators’ Meeting (AIRM) and Related Meetings, to be held on 16–19 November 2026 in Bali, Indonesia, two dedicated side events will be organised on 17 November 2026. These sessions complement the main AIRM agenda by providing a focused platform for regulators and relevant partners to deepen technical discussions and exchange practical experiences on two increasingly important areas for ASEAN: disaster risk financing and insurance, and the sustainability of private health insurance.

WG-DRFI Regional Disaster Risk Financing Workshop

The Joint ADRFI-2 & SEADRIF Workshop, co-hosted with the Ministry of Finance of Indonesia, will focus on strengthening ASEAN’s financial resilience against natural disasters and climate-related risks. The workshop will facilitate discussion on disaster risk assessment, risk financing and risk transfer solutions, catastrophe risk modelling, and regional cooperation. It will also provide an opportunity to explore how ASEAN Member States can better use insurance and other financial instruments to reduce the fiscal and economic impacts of disasters.

Insurance Capacity Building Session on Sustainable Private Health Insurance

The Capacity Building on Sustainable Private Health Insurance, organised in collaboration with the Global Asia Insurance Partnership (GAIP), will focus on the challenges of developing sustainable, affordable, and resilient private health insurance systems in ASEAN. The session will draw on GAIP’s work on sustainable private health insurance in Asia and discuss key issues such as medical cost inflation, affordability, product and technology innovation, data sharing, and regulatory-industry collaboration. The programme is intended to support ASEAN regulators in exchanging experiences and identifying practical approaches to strengthen the long-term sustainability of private health insurance markets.

Together, the two side events reinforce the AIRM 2026 theme of “Strengthening the Resilience of the ASEAN Insurance Ecosystem: Navigating Global Uncertainty and Accelerating Digital Transformation”, by addressing resilience from both catastrophic risk and health protection perspectives.
